- The first (acute) stage of soft tissue healing is the most important and certain procedures allow for the most beneficial recovery time and outcome. The 'RICE' protocol of rest, ice, compression and elevation has now been replaced with 'PEACE & LOVE'
PROTECT – The last thing you want to do is cause any further damage to the injury!
ELEVATE - Where possible keep the injury above the level of your heart. This reduces blood flow & swelling
AVOID - No anti-inflammatories for at least 48 hours post injury
COMPRESSION - Compress the injury to reduce swelling
EDUCATE - An active recovery ensures soft tissues return to their previous state. The right guidance and support can help you feel confident as well as making sure the injury is back to normal
During the sub-acute stage the 'LOVE' comes into play
LOAD - The right stress at the right time promotes the most efficient healing
OPTIMISM - The brain is the control centre of your body and having a positive outlook makes a huge difference to recovery
VASCULARISATION - Cardiovascular exercise has many benefits and is hugely important to injury recovery
EXERCISE - It is important to restore strength, flexibility, mobility & proprioception and performing the correct exercises under the right load at the right time will get you back to 100%
The PEACE & LOVE protocol may seem daunting but fortunately a sports massage therapist trained in strength and conditioning can help you with all aspects!
With my help you can be sure your injury will return back to the way it was before, if not stronger!
